WHERE: Hosted at Mountain City Church - Frostburg, MD. 

WHAT: This 32-hour course over four weekends walks through fundamental elements of biblical counseling starting with theological foundations, moving on to essential skills, and then working through common struggles people face in life. We will look at marriage and family issues as well as personal struggles such as anger, depression, and anxiety, and more.

God’s sufficient word is the textbook from which we derive a Christ-centered, gospel-rich, biblically-accurate methodology of giving wise counsel. For those interested in pursuing certification through ACBC, this course meets the Phase 1 training requirement.

COST: $150 for a couple, $100 individual.

"I took the “Equipped to Counsel” class hosted by the Western Baptist Association and Mountain City Church in 2025 along with my wife and daughter in law.  I was hesitant to sign up for the class as it required a large commitment of time.  It required a Friday evening and all day Saturday, once per month, for four months.  In retrospect, I don’t think I could have spent that time more profitably.

The premise for the class is that scripture provides us the answers we need in order to live faithful lives.  The class trained us to apply scripture to the common problems we and our friends face.  The class instructed us in dealing with things like anger, suffering, marriage, sexuality, communication, conflict resolution, depression, etc.

Between the manual that is provided by signing up for the class, all the verses that are quoted relating to various life situations, the in-class training, and all the wonderful resources recommended in each of the chapters, the class is worth its weight in gold.

The Lord has provided my daughter in law with multiple counseling opportunities since taking the class.  She enthusiastically states that she feels so much more competent to counsel since receiving all the guidance from the class."
